Husarenkrapfen (Hussar doughnuts)

For the dough:
some 300 g strong flour
200 g butter
100 g icing sugar
100 g roasted, peeled and ground hazelnuts (or almonds)
2 egg yolks
a little vanilla powder
a small amount of ground cloves,
zest of peel of 1/2 lemon

For the extras:
25 g jam (apricot or plum)
1/2 a beaten egg
some icing sugar mixed with vanilla powder

Make a dough out of all the dough ingredients and form this into a long, thin roll, or rolls. Cut the roll(s) into pieces of similar size (walnut size). Make balls and put them on an ungreased baking tray. Flatten each piece of dough a bit and make a dip with your finger in the centre of each piece and put some of the rest of the egg mixture on to each. Bake these pieces until done. Remove from oven and after they have cooled down, fill the dip with the jam. Finally, dust each piece with icing sugar.
