Weihnachtskekse (Christmas biscuits)
500 g flour
200 g sugar
1 packet of vanilla sugar* (or 3 drops of vanilla essence)
250 g butter
2 egg yokes
2 spoonfuls of a milk mixed with 1 tablespoon of rum
Mix all ingredients together and knead them into a dough; let this rest in a cool place (e.g. refrigerator) for at least 30 minutes. Cut the dough into 2 pieces and roll each out thinly on a thin flat surface; use different appropriate shapes (star, moon, heart etc.) for cutting out biscuits; place the biscuits on a greased baking tray (or baking tray covered with baking paper) and bake them for 5-10 minutes in a moderately hot oven (170 C). Take them out when golden, before they turn brown. Leave to cool.

* Vanilla sugar is sold prepackaged in Austria; it is 3-5gr of powdered sugar mixed either (if available) with the pulp from a vanilla pod, or more often with vanilla essence or flavouring.
